Capitol Perspective

I lived in the DC Metro area for about a year and there is much to admire. Cherry Blossoms, Georgetown, and Ben’s Chili Bowl are highlights. I find skylines in any city to be interesting, but DC’s is different because of the height restrictions on buildings.

There’s a bit of lore that the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol are supposed to be the tallest buildings in D.C., hence the height restrictions. Turns out, though a good story, it’s inaccurate. A law was passed in 1899 because fire‑fighting equipment couldn’t reach higher.

So, the DC skyline kept my attention, and I still love playing the game of “can I spot the Monument?” while I’m in the city exploring. Some people collect souvenirs; I collect Monument sightings. Same vibe, less dusting.
